大学英语比赛演讲稿篇1
i have been in university for about one year. during my stay here, i came to realize that university life is like drinking coke. we experience all tastes of life here, sour, sweet, bitter and hot.
i am from province, which is far away from here. i often miss my mum, friends, and relatives in my hometown. however, i can't see them very often. so loneliness always keeps me company. i am sad that i can't be there with them.
lucky for me, life in university is rich and colorful. with more free time,we can do many more things besides study, such as joining
societies clubs, and taking part-time jobs. such activities not only make our life more colorful, but also help us improve all kinds of skills. the university is a society miniature, what we learn here will benefit our future life.
our path in life will not always be smooth. setbacks can't be avoided. failing an important exam, break up with boy or girl friend, or refused by a promising company, such setbacks are likely to get us down. sometimes we fell so frustrated that we even burst into tears. drinkin coke is wonderful, despite the undesirble consequent hiccups. it's bitter, sour and peppery, but also sweet. and you'll even feel excited after gulping down a glass. a college experience is part of growing up. we cry, smile, fall in love, get hurt, leave, learn and then we become a better person.
university life is like drinking coke. i'm experiencing it. and i know, i enjoy it!

good morning, ladies and gentlemen,
before the speech, i would like to share a famous experiment with you. two big mice were put into one vessel which was filled with water. they began to struggle when they were aware of danger. but finally their lives just lasted 8 minutes. after that, another two joined the same experiment but this time a springboard was given to help them get out of water. five days later, the two experienced big mice were put into the same experiment. a miracle came into being. can you guess it? without the spring board, they survived 24 minutes, three times as many as the first time.
have you found the difference between the two groups? just one thing is that the latter has owned a kind of spiritual strength ---hope.
people can lose many things except hope. one animal with hope is more respectable than one person with hopelessness. therefore, everyone should be to hope in the life. we should have our goals, dreams, and beliefs together with the endless hope. hope is light; hope is dawn; hope is the rising sun. hope endows us with courage, confidence and power. please think about the red army men and the last group of people rescued during earthquakes. why can they adhere to the end? because they believed in hope. it is hope that nurtures persistence; it is hope that creates miracles one by one.
now, please look at this. what's this? i know all of you can give me a correct answer. yes, it is a leaf. have you ever thought more about it? do you believe it can save a life? i am afraid most of you do not believe it. however, it really saved one young lady. the story happened in one of o.henry's works. one patient was told that her disease was becoming more and more serious. so she lost heart to live. and she just lived commonly and hopelessly to await death together with a withered tree outside her window. because she thought when the last leaf fell, her life would go to the end. but after a very long time, she found the last leaf was still green and fresh in the tree and she was also alive. afterwards, she was told that the last leaf was just painted by a skilled painter on the window which was a gloss. at that time, she exceedingly regreted her foregone view.
so ladies and gentlemen, please give a leaf to yourselves. with a piece of leaf at hand, you will find life glows with glory; with a gleam of hope in mind, you will find everything goes with smoothness. to hope, to smooth away all the difficulties, to take every obstacle in stride. you are a shinning star. thank you very much!

i am tripping my elephant here
once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. as he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. he looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. a sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “hey, chicken! watch out your leg, it’s out!” the ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ shi…i am going to trip that elephant.”
right now, i’m standing on this glamorous stage. but everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. around this time last year i was in nanjing competing in another speech contest. that was the first time for me to be in such a large event. of course the pressure i was under was immense too. after a sleepless and stressful night, i went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. that speech turned out to be horrible. i don’t remember how i get down from there, but i do remember afterwards i just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. thanks to all the help i got from my special friends. my confidence was restored. after rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, i am here today. from all that i’ve been through i’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if i want my life to go on well i have to let go of my past failure. so today, with out fear, i am tripping my elephant again.

once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: happiness, sadness, knowledge, and all of the others, including love. one day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. except for love.
love was the only one who stayed. love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.
when the island had almost sunk, love decided to ask for help.
richness was passing by love in a grand boat. love said,"richness, can you take me with you?"
richness answered, "no, i can't. there is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. there is no place here for you."
love decided to ask vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "vanity, please help me!"
"i can't help you, love. you are all wet and might damage my boat," vanity answered.
sadness was close by so love asked, "sadness, let me go with you."
"oh . . . love, i am so sad that i need to be by myself!"
happiness passed by love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when love called her.
suddenly, there was a voice, "come, love, i will take you." it was an elder. so blessed and overjoyed, love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. when they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. realizing how much was owed the elder, love asked knowledge, another elder, "who helped me?"
"it was time," knowledge answered.
"time?" asked love. "but why did time help me?"
knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "because only time is capable of understanding how valuable love is."

our future: a battle between dreams and reality
good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:
when i was in the primary school, i have a dream. i want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. when i was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. and when eventually i got into the university, my dream was to graduate.
how pathetic! when we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. why? why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be "fulfilled"? why do we have to surrender to the so-called "reality"? what is the reality actually?
ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. it is a barrier keeping us from all the possible fantasies. flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. a hundred years ago, "man could not fly" was still regarded as the "reality". now if that was really the reality, what did the wright brothers do? how did some of you get to macau? only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams.
people say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. and if, unfortunately, mr. reality wins this war, then i see no future of mankind at all. aids will never be curable as this is the reality; people living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this is the reality; 4)disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality.
ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? please raise your hands. oh, quite a number of you! actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. every one of us has to make a living, right? anyway i hope your task will be accomplished. how many of you think that you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don't dream anymore? dear 5)adjudicators, what do you think? c.s. lewis once said,"you are never too old to dream a new dream." so for our future, please dream and be unrealistic.
now that i am a university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. but at the same time, i have a dream deeply rooted in our future. one day, people living in the areas now 6)sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. one day, people from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the poor countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. one day, different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be 7)eliminated. one day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. one day, our dream will defeat the reality! thank you very much.

change the ingredients of your life
this is a glass of water, tasteless, right? however if you add sugar, it will taste sweet, but if you add vinegar, it will become bitter. the same is true with our life____ the flavor is created by our choices.
if kindness is added to a strange you will have a friend; but if hostility is added, you will have an enemy. if love is added to a pile of red bricks you will have a home, but if hatred is add to those bricks , you will have an concentration camp.
so my dear friends, never complain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. if don’t like the taste of your life, change the ingredients.
three year ago, i weighed more than 100 hundred kilograms which caused significant embarrassment and frustration in my life. like always failing my p.e examinations, like always being laughed at by girls, like being terrified to speak in public. it was my grandmother’s encouragement that revived from my passive attitude to become confident in myself. she said “ my dear, if you can’t change you figure, why not treat it as your own style. so i began to cautiously employ the new way of thinking. by choosing to change my outlook on life, i developed the confidence to make a difference and finally i found a totally new world.
so my dear friend, if faith, hope, love, endurance are added to your life, you will find the confidence to conquer your limitation and embrace new challenges. and hopefully with my speech included, you will have a fantastic speech contest.

the difficulties young chinese university graduates have had in finding a job over the past few months have been making the headlines in the media and causing concern throughout society. education professionals in china have all had something to say about it.
a good number of them, referring to the current phase of social transition in china, have come out in favour of the mass education programme that has been practised in recent years in chinese universities. others have raised doubts about the reliability of the figure of only 70% as the rate of employment for new graduates, which they consider to be alarmist. in fact, according to the statistics provided by the ministry of education itself, out of the 2.12 million graduates in the general higher education sector in 20xx, 640,000 had not signed a work contract by the end of their studies in these circumstances, it is understandable that in the current labour market in shanghai, for example, new university graduates are settling for a monthly salary of 1,200 yuan, slightly more than double shanghai’s minimum wage, at the same time as they are having to face significant overheads (superannuation, unemployment insurance, health insurance, etc.).
if we take into account the cost of living in shanghai (including accommodation, transport and telecommunications), it would appear that the salary of these graduates is barely enough to cover their basic needs . the purpose of this article is to better understand the current unemployment of young graduates, beyond any proposals being put forward in the context of higher education reform.

the first time i saw a square watermelon, my hair stood on end. years ago a japanese came up with the idea of square watermelons because he thought it would save more space. intelligent and effective as it is, have you ever thought about how tragic it is for the watermelon?
i can't imagine that poor fruit's childhood, being imprisoned and limited in a dark cubic cell, not even able to stretch its arms and legs. because only in this way, can it truly become a square watermelon.
unfortunately, isn't this the way we grew up? under the pressure of being forced to strive for one goal after another, we almost became identical. however, at the same time, there is still a bunch of people, careless of the dark cell, following their passion, their dreams.
maybe there is not a "right" or "wrong" between being forced by pressure or following your dream. i mean, pressure can make things going in an effective, though boring, way. by contrast, passion and dreams enrich your life, though sometimes it's risky to stick to them. nevertheless, ladies and gentlemen, following your dream with passion is what everyone should choose to do.
let me explain it this way.
my grandmother was very shocked when she found out that i know what my cousin sister is doing simply by clicking on her blog. hesitating for a little while, though, she asked for my help and decided to start her "social network life" at the advanced age of 85.
think about this, a woman didn't give up her passion, and tried not to fall behind, even almost in the evening of her life. what supported her is her passion and her dream. the sad truth is that not everyone is able to enjoy this part of life. when they become old, or, as some would say, when they become mature, their mind is imprisoned into a box, partly by society, partly by themselves. they have tons of things they must do also tons of things they must not do. in essence, thousands of millions of people are becoming like square melons with an imprisoned mind.
this reminds me of a book i once read called "brave new world". in the story, the world in 2532 is highly efficient, stable and prosperous. people are classified before they are born, when they are from the same family they will have the same face, the same abilities and same future. that’s a world in which there’s no passion or dream. only pressure and and striving.
ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we could end up in, if we allow ourselves to be blocked in, like the square melons.
